Skinny, straight, black, faded, high-waist or low-rise, jeans now come in a dizzying array of cuts, dyes and washes. The days when Levi’s 501s were everyone’s denims of choice are long gone, but American labels like Earl and True Religion have still dominated the fashion scene in recent years. Not anymore. Today’s hottest jeans come from Europe

French rock star Brice Partouche from the band Rodeo Massacre runs April 77, a brand that takes its inspiration from the music scene. Worn by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, The Rolling Stones and Sahara Hotnights, its trademark is the slim silhouette, with legs that are either slightly short, Mod-style, or really long. With pockets for guitar plectrums and style names like The Costello/Chelsea and The Joey, these jeans are a real rock ’n’ roll choice. www.april77.fr
Swedish denim aficionado Örjan Andersson is the man behind Cheap Monday, which combines designer cuts and high-quality fabric with low price tags. Its jeans have been selling like hotcakes in his home country, and are now building up a steady following across the world. The bestseller is the skinny Tight in black, but the label now also offers a wide selection of other styles, including the high-waist Eiffel Tower, the baggy Inside Selvedge and the jodhpur-esque Riding Space in brown, light blue, red and many other colours. If the choice is too bewildering, why not snap up a couple of pairs? At around only £40 a pop, you can afford to make a brave choice. www.cheapmonday.com
London’s Superfine first hit the spotlight with the grey drainpipes worn by Kate Moss and Sienna Miller, but for winter the look is all about higher waistbands, even combined with wide legs, as in the Max model. Textures and washes also get interesting – check out the black wax, which will no doubt go down a storm with cool chicks like Juliette Lewis, another Superfine fan. Guys will also be able to get in on the act when the first menswear range hits stores in time for spring. www.superfinelondon.com

01. Grape Lip Care Stick €9.80
Winter weather and indoor heating can leave lips dry and flaky. Get the healing and softening properties of a bunch of grapes on your side, handily squashed into this little lip-care stick. www.korres.com
02. Strawberry Body Butter €20.50
If your winter skin’s looking dull or pale, cheer it up with the antioxidant power of strawberries. The only problem with this purée-like moisturiser for normal skin is that it smells so good, you may be tempted to eat it (not recommended!). www.thebodyshop.com
03. Satsuma Body Polish €10.25
Improve bumpy, orange-peel skin with the aid of this zesty, satsuma-scented shower scrub. Walnut shells slough off dead skin cells while fair-trade honey moisturises. www.thebodyshop.com
04. Citrus Deodorant €8
The citrus smell is great on men or women, the glass bottle is recyclable, the pump is ozone safe, and nothing within – such as orange oil to neutralise odour – is tested on animals. Plus, there are none of the chemical nasties that have linked some deodorants to breast cancer. Surely the perfect deodorant. www.weleda.com
05. Hei Poa Oil €5.99
This multi-purpose Tahitian beauty oil has a coconut base and ingredients including crushed tiare flowers and vanilla. It softens and protects skin and hair from sunlight and pollutants, leaving behind a summery scent said to be an aphrodisiac. www.heipoa.com
06. Each Peach Massage Bar €6.50
This has ingredients that read like a fruit salad: as well as peach, there are avocado, mango, lime, orange, mandarin and grapefruit extracts. Sweeter still, there’s cocoa butter to soften you up. Melt onto skin with warm hands. www.lush.com
07. Guava Body Butter €17.50
The shot of vitamin C in this guava moisturiser will stimulate your body’s collagen levels, restoring smoothness and elasticity, while quince and avocado oils will leave dry elbows and knees baby-soft. www.korres.com
