Prenzlauer Berg (pictured) is the new ‘in place’ in central-east Berlin and has yet to peak. Old factories are made into loft apartments and appeal to those after something a bit different. Currently on the market for €174,500: a 76m² one-bedroom loft conversion with a big balcony in an old leather factory. The flats are wholly new, with very high ceilings. Interiors are raw but have all the mod cons.

The warning comes after an investigation showed that many people looking to buy abroad aren’t aware of the issues that could turn their dream property into a nightmare

And because of the complex Spanish property laws, some homes have had to be knocked down. To avoid this, it’s important to use a good independent lawyer when buying property in Spain.
