Norbit (Eddie Murphy) has never had it easy. As a baby, he was abandoned on the steps of a Chinese restaurant/orphanage and raised by Mr Wong (also played here by Murphy). In adulthood he finds himself unhappily engaged to a large lady by the name of Rasputia (Murphy again), and hopes to escape into the arms of his childhood sweetheart and fellow orphan Kate (Thandie Newton). When she returns to town to buy the orphanage, Norbit hopes his chance has come, but as well as Rasputia there’s the small matter of Kate’s fiancé (Cuba Gooding Jr) to deal with.
