New tax laws in Italy mean that property investors could benefit from a cheaper buying process. In the past, non-residential buyers in Italy had to pay a tax at 10% of the purchase price. But the new laws mean that private buyers will now pay a percentage of the land registration value, called the cadastral, instead. In many cases, this could mean paying as little as 2%-3% of the property’s price, which makes Italy an even more interesting prospect for investment
Wouldn’t it be nice if, before you signed the deal for your new holiday home, you could get to know the neighbours, try out the kitchen and bathroom, and generally get a better feel for the area? The Estate agency Vamos a Ver in southern Spain now offers a ‘Try Before You Buy’ trial period of up to five days, where you get to live in the house or flat that you’re considering. The properties require a €5,000 reservation fee that is then deducted from the purchase price if you decide to buy, or returned if you decide that it’s not the property for you.
